With all the progress made toward gender equality, it’s easy to think that certain battles have already been won. Women serve in the military at every level, achieving the highest honors, and leading with skill and dedication. However, there are still voices that insist women don’t belong in the military. It’s disappointing, but this resistance only reinforces why I created the Shero Coffee Club.
It really is a jungle when you brave through comments of online articles which I recently dared to look at after reading an article showcasing the accomplishments of military women and usually, I am unbothered by negative comments because I’ve seen, heard and experienced them, but I got time today. Most of the comments I read were from men echoing outdated stereotypes or questioning the capability or role of women in the military. These comments are nothing more than lingering biases that try to dismiss the reality of what women have achieved. Women in the military have shown time and again that they can serve with the same valor, skill, and leadership as their male counterparts. From leading missions in combat zones to supporting strategic operations and even commanding troops, women have proven their mettle.
The Shero Coffee Club was founded to celebrate women who serve, and part of that celebration is amplifying their stories and contributions. We stand firm in our commitment to shine a light on their journeys, triumphs, and sacrifices, no matter the detractors. Every story we share, every bag of coffee sold, and every conversation sparked is a reminder that women Veterans have earned their place in history, often overcoming not only the external challenges of service but also the skepticism of those who doubt them.
To our community and beyond, let us continue to celebrate women who serve. Let us remember that change does not come easy, and the road to true equality is often met with resistance. But these voices of dissent only underscore the need for platforms like Shero Coffee Club. We will continue to tell the stories of women Veterans—unapologetically, proudly, and in their full complexity.
Women Veterans are Sheroes, and we’re here to celebrate them. To my Shero sisters, keep serving, keep leading, and know that your stories matter. We stand with you, honoring your journey and sharing it with the world, undeterred by the naysayers. #sherocoffeeclub
