More Than "Just a Headache"

June is National Headache & Migraine Awareness Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness about a condition that affects millions of people but is often misunderstood.

More than 40 million Americans live with migraine disease, and over one billion people worldwide are affected by migraine and other headache disorders. Despite these numbers, many people continue to suffer in silence, often dismissing their symptoms as simply part of everyday life.

I know because I was one of them.

For years, I experienced headaches that I believed were caused by allergies or sinus problems. Like many people, I learned to live with them. I self-medicated, adjusted my routine, and kept pushing forward. But eventually, the pain became more than an inconvenience. It began affecting my quality of life. I reached a point where I could no longer ignore it or simply "push through." That's when I decided to seek help.

It wasn't until I received a diagnosis that I began to understand what was really happening.

Looking back, I often wonder how many others are doing exactly what I did misdiagnosing and self-medicating managing the pain as best I can and never realizing that help is available until years later.

That is why this month's awareness campaign is so important.

At Shero Coffee Club, we believe conversations can change lives. Sometimes the first step toward healing begins when someone hears a story that sounds like their own.

That belief is one of the reasons our partnership with the National Headache Foundation means so much.

For more than 50 years, the National Headache Foundation has been a trusted source of education, support, advocacy, and resources for individuals living with headache disorders and migraine disease. Their work helps people better understand symptoms, seek treatment, and advocate for their health.

One of the Foundation's most impactful initiatives is Operation Brainstormâ„¢, a program dedicated to supporting veterans, active-duty service members, military families, and caregivers affected by migraine and headache disorders.

This mission is especially meaningful to the veteran community.

An estimated 6.7 million veterans have been diagnosed with or experience symptoms of migraine, and nearly 2 million receive care through the Veterans Health Administration. Yet many continue to struggle with delayed diagnosis, limited awareness, and misconceptions about what migraine disease really is.

Operation Brainstormâ„¢ works to change that.

Through education, outreach, resources, podcasts, and community engagement, the program helps veterans and their families better understand headache disorders and connect with the support they need.

We are honored to work alongside Diego Colón, Military Partnerships Associate Director for the National Headache Foundation. Through his leadership and advocacy, Diego continues to help raise awareness about the unique challenges veterans face while living with migraine disease and headache disorders.

For Shero Coffee Club, this partnership is about helping others avoid years of uncertainty. If sharing my story helps someone recognize their symptoms, ask questions, seek help, and find answers sooner than I did, then it is worth it. It is also an opportunity to support organizations that are dedicated to improving lives through education, awareness, and advocacy.

If you or someone you love experiences frequent headaches, migraine attacks, or symptoms that interfere with daily life, we encourage you to learn more. The educational resources available through the National Headache Foundation and Operation Brainstormâ„¢ may provide the information needed to start a conversation with a healthcare provider and take the next step toward answers.

Sometimes understanding your symptoms is the first step toward reclaiming your quality of life.

At Shero Coffee Club, we believe awareness creates impact. We are proud to support the National Headache Foundation and Operation Brainstormâ„¢ as they work to educate, advocate, and improve the lives of those affected by migraine disease and headache disorders.

This National Headache & Migraine Awareness Month, we invite you to learn more, share this message, and explore the resources available through the National Headache Foundation and Operation Brainstormâ„¢. You never know who might be searching for answers to a condition they don't yet understand.

Visit the National Headache Foundation at headaches.org and Operation Brainstormâ„¢ at operationbrainstorm.org to access educational resources, support tools, podcasts, and information designed to help individuals and families navigate migraine disease and headache disorders.

Because sometimes what feels like "just a headache" may be something much more.

And no one should have to navigate that journey alone.
